This is fantastic because rather than mastering tracks to 44.1 KHz 16 bit – standard CD format, then uploading the CD to iTunes, Apple are encouraging files to be converted to AAC plus directly from the bit depth and sample rate the tracks were recorded in – 24 bit 44.1 KHz up to 96 KHz……makes so much sense. On completion of the 24 bit master wavs, simply drag and drop them on ‘Master for iTunes Droplet’ and they’re converted to AAC plus .m4a files ready for upload to iTunes.
Here’s a screenshot of Audio Lab with the AURoundTrip AAC Audio Unit inserted as an effect on a Generator track, allowing real time comparison between a source wav and the AAC plus encoded equivalent.
